Save the stuff at the end of this message to a file, then use "xmodmap
file".  (If you save to the user's .xmodmap file, I think it gets
loaded automatically.  See /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc to be sure.)

Maybe you should see how the Linux router people are handling that
sort of thing.

Sounds like you need a small UPS with a serial connector.
