Re: "Halloween" Paper
Thanks for the head up! Talking with Caldera's representative in
the antitrust lawsuit--he wasn't aware of the document yet, and I
was able to give him the quick'n'dirty and URL. Said he's going
to study it tonight and see to its circulation. So, if you see it
become an issue in the press coverage, take satisfaction in knowing
you had a hand in passing the ammo.
While we're in this department, another tactic for Linux militants.
Be naive--it works for Windoze users. You purchase hardware the
external packaging of which indicates that it will operate on your
platform, *states nothing of OS requirements*, promises technical
support. Once past the shrink wrap and contacting the company, you
are dismayed to learn that their technical support is limited to MS
95/98 & NT! "Sorry...have a nice day."
Call the a Illinois Attorney General's Consumer Fraud Division
at (217) 782-9011 and ask to file a complaint. This demands little
of your time, they send you a form to fill out and return. You may
not get what was promised, but if the complaint passes preliminary
review, the Attorney General's office sends the company a letter
to say "what's up with this?" This reminds hardware manufacturers
that some of us demand a Real Operating System and ignoring us can
be made about as much fun as programming COBOL...
