Re: NextStep
My roommate bought it when I (we) lived in Urbana, now I have it. I'm
pretty sure that it originally came from UIUC, back when students could
buy them - the student rate was the only affordable way to get them. It's
SN xxxxx503xx, and given that about 50,000 were built it's probably one
of the last ones. It's a color turbo ADB with the sound box, floppy, and
all original internals. Whee.
If you're looking to buy one, they're fairly cheap from www.blackholeinc.com.
A color turbo slab runs $79, and the matching monitor is another $79
(I'm setting mine up to netboot right now - the old hard drive is too loud).
A full setup with the slab, mouse, kbd, sound, monitor, and 32MB with NS
installed runs like $350. Considering the cool factor of having a NeXT
box (I learned scheme on them at UIUC circa '95 - my first programming class),
that's not too bad.
comp.sys.next.* are helpful too (and suprisingly still active).
