PDF woes

I've run into an issue with the pdf creation utilities (ps2pdf, dvipdf
and wordperfects) under linux.  It seems that pdf's created by these
utilities are not readable by Acrobat Reader 5.0 under Windows.  Does
anyone have a clue as to why and how to fix it?
