LUCI: Student Group

Hello,

As some of you may, or may not know, LUCI is a supporter of the Students
for the Integration of Technology and Education (SITE) group at
Springfield High School.

As LUCI does not collect dues, it does ask every once in a while for
donations for specific causes, such as hardware (web server), domain
registration, etc. Well, I'd like to ask you to help SITE.

SITE is planning a trip to the Illinois Student Technology Conference from
March 11 - 12 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Oak Brook (Chicago) Illinois.
In order to cover this cost, they must raise about $1500. At the event,
these students will be giving presentations to other students and faculty
from accross Illinois. Their proposed topics will include "How to Create
a Successful Student-Run Website", "How to Create Panoramas: A Virtual
Tour of Springfield High School", Accessability Software for the Visually
Impaired (Speech Recognition, CloseView, etc.)" and "How to Promote
Technology at School by Mentoring Teachers".

These students are hosting a few fundraisers, such as selling mousepads
for $5 and WebArt CD's that the students created for $10. Of course
they'll also accept general donations, on behalf of LUCI.

These students had been counting on a grant to provide funding, but the
grant was lost last week to a "African Mite/HoneyBee study".

I would like to collect enough donations to give SITE at least $250 on
behalf of LUCI. Please let me know what you would contribute by or at our
next meeting, Tuesday January 26, 1999.

At our following meeting, February 23, 1999, these students will be
invited to practice their presentations to our audience.

Oh, a small upcoming fundraiser they will be having is at Computerfest on
March 13. O'Reilly and Associates have donated several books for them to
sell at their booth 1/2 price. Among these including Linux in a Nutshell
and Unix in a Nutshell, as well as UML and Internet in a Nutshell. These
books will be $10 as opposed to $20. The funds will go to support a good
cause :-)

Again, please let me know what you're willing to contribute. If you would
prefer to contribute anonomously, you can send the contribution to my home
address, and I will relay it to the group.
