Just "cat /usr/src/linux/arch/i386/boot/zImage > /dev/fd0" or "dd
if=/usr/src/linux/arch/i386/boot/zImage of=/dev/fd0" should work just
fine.

It takes a little more work to make up a floppy that boots with lilo.
(It's not too hard, but it does take some work.)
