Linux and Microsoft Square Off in Chicago Next Month 
COMDEX/Spring and WINDOWS WORLD Opens with a Bang on April 19 when Bill
Gates Previews Windows 2000 and Linus Torvalds Keynotes the Linux Global
Summit  
SEATTLE, March 29 /PRNewswire/ -- In IT's most controversial moment of the
year, Linus Torvalds, founder of the Linux Operating System, and Bill Gates,
founder of the Windows Operating System, will speak at COMDEX/Spring and
WINDOWS WORLD '99. Mr. Gates and Mr. Torvalds will give attendees a complete
view of their operating system options as each speaker highlights the
benefits, strengths and value of their competing operating system. Microsoft
faithful, as well as the Linux legions, are expected to attend, to create a
lively atmosphere for both presentations. 
Microsoft has historically used WINDOWS WORLD as the platform to announce
its most important initiatives and products, and at the 1999 event the
company will hold to this tradition. On Monday, April 19 at 9:00 a.m. in the
Airie Crown Theater of McCormick Place, Bill Gates, Chairman and CEO of
Microsoft, will preview Windows 2000 to the world. He will then outline the
concept of the "Digital Nervous System" and how Microsoft sees the
technology pieces fitting into the technology landscape. Immediately
following his keynote, Mr. Gates will personally recognize top independent
and corporate software developers with the prestigious WINDOWS WORLD OPEN
awards for excellence in custom application development. During the week at
WINDOWS WORLD, Microsoft will offer Office 2000 and Windows 2000 Hands-on
Workshops. 
Following Mr. Gates' keynote, at 10:30 a.m. in Room N133 of McCormick Place,
Linus Torvalds, the founder of the Linux Operating Systems, will answer Mr.
Gates in the second keynote of the day. Mr. Torvald's keynote kicks-off the
two-day "Linux Global Summit." Produced in cooperation with Linux
International and Linux Journal, and sponsored by Linux Hardware Solutions
and Caldera, the summit will explore the business potential of the Linux OS
and the growing number of applications being developed for it. Over the past
year, the Linux OS has been gaining in popularity as corporate IT
developers, resellers and systems integrators begin to see it as a
formidable alternative to Windows.  
Linux Journal and Linux International will be co-sponsoring the Linux
International Pavilion on the COMDEX/Spring '99 exhibition floor. More than
sixteen companies will be showcasing their Linux solutions in this
exhibition area. These vendors, as well as Linux International, will be
highlighting the benefits of their products and services in a presentation
theater located in the pavilion. In addition, the Linux Show will be
broadcasting from the pavilion throughout the week.
