Sounds like groff may be broken in some way - or man itself isn't
calling groff right.

Check the man page for man to figure out how to fix it. :-)

OK, OK, here's the most interesting man command lines:

-t : Print to PostScript, and send to stdout.
-w : Print the locations of the pages that would be displayed, not the
pages themselves.
-c : Reformat the page from source even if there's a page in cache.
-d : Print debugging info instead of the man page.
