Hmm...  funny what happens when you get way behind on E-mail... :-)  For those
that might still care:

Big Brother was usable, but not very flexible or robust.  As an example, it
will occasionally report a spurious ping failure and page you about it.
(You'll always get ping failures once in a while; Ethernet isn't perfect.)

The Transmeta program was called "mon".  It looked to be the nicest of the
three, but when I tested it once, it blew up.  I probably did something wrong
with it.

I did get spong working, but never got it into production; they ended up
switching to a Windows NT-based system.  The only time it would ever page would
be when there was something wrong with the NT box; other network problems were
cheerfully ignored.  Big Brother therefore became the main monitoring system
until I left at least.

I would probably recommend spong or mon.
