[More OT] Just an off-list recap ... moving to Bloomington fromOrlando ...

Had several conversations off-list, just want to recap some of them.

1. My wife is a teacher

BS in Elementary Ed, MS in Reading, 2nd MS (almost finished) in
Media/Instruction. If anyone knows any school district near Bloomington
(within 50 miles or so) that is hiring elementary (1-6), reading (1-12)
or media (any), teachers/specialists, please let me know. Unfortunately
Illinois does not accept my wife's Florida certificate, so she'll have
to wait until September to take Illinois' exam.

2. I'm living out of an extended stay for the first 3 weeks

So I will have 3 weekends to look for a more permanent residence. I'm
hesitant to buy anything, and would rather rent, although I'm open to a
good deal (like I have here in Florida, which I'm keeping even if I move
permanently). A number of people have talked about some of the 30+
minute rural areas having far lower cost of living than Bloomington. My
only concern is travel during the winter months. Although I'm used to a
60+ minute commute here in Orlando (average is an average 45 minutes,
statistically, one of the worst in the nation), we don't have to worry
about being "snowed in." Given my position at State Farm, missing work
because of weather is not an option. ;-ppp

3. Might have to start a new user group

Someone informed me the ISU UNIX group is no longer, and ISU/Springfield
is a bit farther away than I thought. I've run an user group before,
and I'm sure there are numerous, potential State Farm IT professionals
who will join. Call it BLUD -- Bloomington Linux, UNIX, Darwin --
Users, which fits in nicely with State Farm's red logo (without
violating their trademark -- we'll use a rectangular logo ;-). Just an
idea I'm playing with. Here in Orlando, LEAP is an extremely
active/technical group, so we'll also have knowledgeable people signing
up for the lists from afar (let alone the current president of LEAP can
host the list/site for us). But more on that once I get there, and get
an Internet connection.

The more Microsoft says there is no accountability
in Linux, the more people laugh at Microsoft.
