Have you set up a start-of-authority in your (example.com) zone file ? 
Have you set up a name server entry in your (example.com)zone file ? 
Once those are set up, add the host (A record) of your systems.
Then make sure you have set up a reverse zone file entry for that network ( e.g. 10.0.1.0  = example.com)
Once the reverse lookup zone (in-arpa ) is set up , add a pointer record for the hosts (A record) for that domain. 
 
 
It's a coincidence, I'm re-configuring my office network's DNS zone this weekend.

	I have a Slackware 8.0 box and I'm trying to set up a test network
	with a bogus DNS server so that the three servers on this standalone
	network can "think" that they are resolving their names.  Can this

	requires the target have the same FQDN as the original.  I can't
	install on the new system unless it resolves itself as the old name
	and IP address.  Until I have the product installed, I can't (of
