kernel message : no resources on eth0

kernel: eth0: card reports no resources.

I'm getting the above log entry about once a day. A google search shows a 
lot of mailing list conversations about it, but no fix. Rather people just 
seem to say that the card will end up failing altogether. 
Anyone have some insight into how to go about finding out just what may be 
causing this or a method to remedy short of replacing cards?
