Good motherboard

I tried using my cdwriter tonight, which I haven't used for a
couple of years, but it didn't work.  I get some interrupt
errors, which looking through the archives, seems to be
something related to the AMD chips.  What are some of the
CPU/Motherboard combinations that seem to be the most
bulletproof?  I don't need a fast machine.  I'm running
an Athlon 500 now, and it seems plenty fast to me.
