Re: kppp problem
I managed to get DNS working (I think, it was very late and I might have been hallucinating).
What did I do? I'm not sure...I need to re-trace my steps. There were some services running that I shut off, like nfslock and pppoe and something to do with adsl (how those got enable is beyond me), and I made a very small change in the /etc/nsswitch.conf file (I changed the hosts: line and put dns in front).
If I can figure which shot-in-the-dark fixed it, I'll post it, because someone else is bound to hit this problem too.
This was one of those very strange and nasty problems that I'd like to just forget about. I am really thinking that somehow nis was involved.
