Whoops! Actually, I had it backwards. Sorry. I once had a problem similar
to yours BECAUSE I had the MTU set to 1400. Moving it back up to 1500
solved it.

Is it possible that you're specifing a funky MTU/MRU somewhere, perhaps in
an rc.* file, if not in your ppp "options" file?
