broken xfs

when i try to startx i get an error stating that the default font 'fixed'
cannot be found. the changes i have made are:

	tarred up /var and untarred it on the partition where /
	is mounted. /var was on its own disk partition.

	removed the /var/ statement and /tmp/ statement from 
	/etc/fstab, such that they do not get mounted to a 
	different physical drive than /
